I took an iconography class with Raymond Vincent at the Holy Transfiguration Monastery outside of Wilits, CA. It was an amazing 5 days with instructions, vespers and mass every day. What a wonderful retreat with beautiful views, delicious food and, of course, the holy men.
My icon of the Mother of God below is painted with tempura and 23 karat gold.
The tempura is made with fresh egg yolk, vinegar, water and color.
To start the painting, I transferred a simple pattern with graphite paper onto a white gesso board. The instructor, Raymond Vincent, demonstrated on my piece, as needed, to help me with the instruction.
