My Guardian Angel

 Here is an icon I wrote. It is my guardian angel. All of us have a guardian angel assigned to us through God's love to be by our side. To light, to rule, protect and guide us. This is created  with, prayer, egg, vinegar, minerals and gold on a birch board with 13 layers of gesso and cloth.

The Seven Sorrows Of Mary

This is my latest icon, The Seven Sorrows of the Mary. It starts with prayers written on the board and egg tempera. The tempera is layered.
You continually pray while writing the icon. The halo is created with gold leaf and clay.

Art Donations For A Theater's Fundraiser

I had a wonderful opportunity to donate acrylic paintings to a theater's fundraiser. The requirement was they had to be 3"x 3" in size. Here are a few of my donations tagged and bagged. 

I also won an award for best acrylic. 

Azalea Art Winners and Talented Artists

I have a wonderful opportunity to instruct and work with aspiring artists. I encouraged them all to enter their work in the local Azalea Art event just as my art mentor and friend, Audi Stanton, encouraged me and her students.

Here are the results of these talented artists.

They all won ribbons!  The youngest at age 10 won Best of Class in pottery. This means she beat out all  pottery submissions in the show.  The oldest at 76 won first, second and honorable mention for her pottery and the 12 year old won third place for her watercolor.
Congratulations to all these award winning artists.

I love John the Baptist! Here is a painting with limited palette. I used a paper towel to make the light around John's head.

Jesus In The Garden of Gethsemane

This is a painting I did of Jesus In The Garden of Gethsemane. I used a limited oil palette.
I wanted the viewer eyes to rest on Our Lord's right hand and view the painting in a circular motion. Right hand, his precious face,  left hand and back to the right hand, again. Was I successful?

HOLY HOLY HOLY TRANSFIGURATION MONASTERY

My husband and I spent a week at a retreat painting icons at the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Redwood Valley, CA. Here are the steps.
1) Trace your drawing onto a gesso board.
2) Etch out the drawing.
3) Write people's name that you want to pray for over the drawing.
4) From the Bible, in the beginner there was darkness. So you start with a dark temper color. Tempera is egg, vinegar and water.
5) You put down clay for where the gold will be and then put sheets of gold over it.
6) .Then you begin to paint in layers the icon while in prayer.
7) When it dries, seal it with beeswax with lavender.

Crescent City Art Gallery Artists of the Month - Yup, That Is Me!

I have my artwork at the Crescent City Art Gallery in Crescent City, CA at the port.
The day I hung up the show, I received a call from the gallery that one of my lighthouse paints sold. The title was "From A Distance". (Thank you!)

Oil on Board using Palette Knife

Yup, I am back in Yosemite at the same location. This time I had my lovely husband by my side as we enjoyed the quiet of the valley.
We usually stay in Mariposa so we can enjoy the wonderful restaurants and go to mass at St. Joseph. The new priest, Fr. Mike, is a holy, joyful man.
It was quite the adventure since I forgot my canvas at home so I ended up buying the last board available in Mariposa.

A couple of old math geeks who met in college.  What a wonderful adventure it has been!

I want to thank all of you who have purchased my art at the Manley Art Center, Harbor Gallery and in my studio this year including the landscape paintings, still life paintings,  cat and dog portraits, magnets, uppity beach buttons, cat pins, Mexican pottery bowls and cards. 
I have put more paintings, hand thrown raku vases and raku clocks in the Manley Art Center. Please come by as they will be available September and October.
I  have a scheduled show at the Brookings Library in October and a show  at  the Crescent City Harbor Gallery in November.

Manley Art Center has a wonderful show of the Columbia Fiber Arts Guild on display, too. Don't miss it!

Another Iconography Class with Raymond Vincent

I had a wonderful opportunity to take another iconography class with Raymond Vincent  at Star of the Sea Parish in Brookings, Oregon. There were several participants  who had never held a brush and did the most amazing work.
